Job summary

Novax Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join their structural steel division in Leeds. The role involves leading design development from initial concepts through to fabrication and site delivery.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in structural steel design, calculations and software tools, with a strong focus on buildability, safety and cost efficiency across UK and European projects.

Qualifications

• Experience in structural steel design and calculations.
• Strong knowledge of structural mechanics and engineering principles.
• Experience with Tekla Structural Designer / Fastrak Building Designer.
• Experience with Masterframe, STAAD.Pro or similar.
• Ability to interpret drawings and engineering requirements.
• Strong communication with clients and teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop structural steel solutions meeting project requirements.
• Produce and review structural calculations for safety and practicality.
• Apply loadings and assess stresses and load paths.
• Work from drawings, specs and client requirements.
• Develop design solutions using standard structural software.
• Collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
• Support tendering and prepare technical bids.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, standards and safety.
• Consider buildability, efficiency and cost in designs.
• Provide progress updates to clients and management.
• Maintain high design quality throughout the process.
• Stay updated with industry standards and best practices.
