Job summary

Wise is hiring a Senior Staff Engineer (IC5) to join the Consumer Onboarding team in London. You will own fundamental components and drive the technical strategy for onboarding, guiding millions of customers through secure, fast, and reliable experiences.

You'll collaborate across Marketing, FinCrime, and KYC, shaping scalable architectures and end-to-end journeys, mentoring engineers, and delivering high-impact solutions in a fast-growing fintech environment.

Qualifications

• Strong production experience with Java or similar OOP languages.
• Proven ability to design and scale distributed systems.
• Experience owning core components or shared libraries used across teams.
• Ability to mentor engineers and set a technical vision.
• Experience building customer-facing products and understanding user impact.
• Excellent collaboration and communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Scalable Onboarding Architecture: design systems to support rapid growth while keeping speed and reliability.
• Cross-Team Technical Alignment: define contracts and integration points between Onboarding and other Wise teams.
• End‑to‑End Journey Ownership: build and evolve onboarding flows from account creation to first transfer.
• System Health & Performance: lead initiatives to improve maintainability, latency, and cost efficiency of onboarding systems.
