Job summary

Wise is seeking an experienced Backend Engineer for the Consumer Onboarding team in London. You will lead a team of engineers, shaping the roadmap and delivering scalable onboarding flows for personal customers worldwide.

As one of the most Senior Engineers, you’ll enable your team, drive end-to-end projects, and ensure system health to support rapid growth. Join an international team building money without borders.

Qualifications

• Experience building distributed, high scalability systems and microservices
• Strong product and customer mindset with customer-facing product experience
• Proficiency in OOP languages (Java or similar) and modern tech stacks
• Enjoy mentoring others and being a force multiplier
• Excellent communicator who explains complex tech to technical and non-technical audiences
• Collaborative, able to work with designers, PMs, analysts across teams
• Bonus: experience with frontend and/or mobile engineering and design functions

Responsibilities

• Shape roadmaps with Product Manager and Engineering Lead, aligning on technical and product vision
• Ensure team resources, planning, and delivery of roadmap commitments
• Lead end-to-end high-impact projects from problem discovery to delivery
• Own health of systems, ensuring maintainability and scalability
• Collaborate with other senior engineers to align with overall strategy
• Coach and mentor engineers to grow their technical capabilities
