Job summary

tem is hiring a Tech Lead for the Payments squad within Saldo, our Billing and Payments Service. You will own the squad's delivery, write design docs, review code, and set the technical direction to scale payments while driving down cost-to-process.

In this hands-on role, you will work with a senior engineer and junior engineers to push for architecture and performance improvements, reporting to the Service Manager for Saldo and shaping how payments evolve for high-volume usage.

Qualifications

• Track record as a tech lead owning the squad's delivery and standards.
• Experience writing design docs, reviewing PRs/ADRs, and solving problems hands-on.
• Ability to balance hands-on work with coaching junior engineers.
• Experience designing a team's ways of working from scratch and cross-team sequencing.

Responsibilities

• Own the squad's delivery and the standards it works to; ensure high-quality shipping.
• Lead from the front: write specs, review ADRs, PRs, and solve problems through code.
• Set payments architecture direction and convert ambiguity into a clear strategy.
• Reduce cost-to-process by improving payment accuracy and processing efficiency.
• Design the squad's operating model and pace, not just follow a playbook.
• Manage sequencing and dependencies; keep work visible to stakeholders.
• Coach junior engineers and define what good looks like with the team.
• Flag promotions and hiring gaps; partner with managerial decisions.
