Job summary

Cygnet Hospital Taunton is seeking a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join a new 15-bed neuro-cognitive service, providing inpatient care for older adults with complex cognitive and neurological conditions. You will manage a specialist caseload and contribute to service development.

The role offers strong supervision, CPD and opportunities for career progression toward higher specialist levels within a growing SLT service.

Qualifications

• A degree/postgraduate diploma (or equivalent) in Speech and Language Therapy, registration with HCPC and membership of the RCSLT
• Competency to independently assess and manage EDS needs (essential)
• Experience in the field of older adults, neurology and/or neurodegenerative conditions evidenced by high level of clinical SLT knowledge
• Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support with an emphasis on person-centred planning
• Evidence of being a strong team player with a genuine desire to help others
• Excellent communication / time management skills

Responsibilities

• Assess speech, communication and language needs (SCLN) and eating, drinking and swallowing (EDS) needs for a specialist caseload
• Deliver input in line with the Cygnet SLT pathway for neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative services
• Work with a multi-disciplinary team on-site and support workforce development
• Participate in large-scale SLT projects and access supervision and CPD
