Job summary

SMT GB in Brownhills, near Birmingham, seeks a Specialist Engineer to be the technical authority for the depot, leading diagnosis and resolution of complex machine issues on Volvo Construction Equipment. You will drive best practice, mentor engineers and work with field teams to maximise uptime and first-time fix rates.

This senior hands-on role offers exposure to premium equipment, ongoing manufacturer training and a clear path to advanced engineering leadership within a growing business.

Qualifications

• A recognised engineering qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive or a related discipline.
• Significant experience maintaining, repairing and diagnosing heavy plant or construction equipment.
• Expert fault-finding skills across hydraulic, electrical, electronic and engine systems.

Responsibilities

• Act as the lead escalation point for complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic faults.
• Support engineers with advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting and repair strategies both remotely and on-site.
• Carry out detailed root cause investigations and implement long-term corrective actions.
• Work with Volvo technical support teams to resolve challenging machine issues.
• Provide coaching, mentoring and technical guidance to engineers across the service operation.
• Support apprentice development and upskilling of engineering colleagues.
