Job summary

IonQ, based in Oxford, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Transport Software team to develop ion transport control software and scale trapped-ion quantum computers. You will work with physicists to guide ion trajectories and contribute to a control software framework used across the quantum system.

The role requires strong systems programming ability (Rust/C++) and proficiency in Python, with a focus on performance-sensitive software deployed in production environments.

Qualifications

Strong programming skills in a systems programming language and experience with performance-sensitive computing.
Familiarity with mathematics and experience with numerical programming, such as Python.
Experience with a systems programming language like Rust or C++; Rust experience is beneficial.

Responsibilities

Develop framework to transform high-level ion transport specifications into voltage waveform data.
Collaborate with transport waveform team on solvers and physics simulations.
Design transport operations for quantum circuits and calibrate parameters.
Interface with runtime, FPGA and electronics teams to shape system architecture.
Accelerate design and analysis of transport waveforms for trapped-ion quantum computers.
