Job summary

Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Digital Experience Engineering team. You’ll drive data transformation through Seamless Data, building secure software and modern integrations.

You’ll own projects across front-end, back-end and cloud, shape engineering standards, and mentor teammates while exploring new technologies and AI-driven approaches for impact.

Qualifications

• Hands-on software engineer with production-grade software delivery experience.
• Strong full-stack engineering capability across front-end and back-end.
• Experience designing and delivering REST APIs and system integrations.
• Extensive experience running production workloads on AWS.
• Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform preferred).
• Proficiency in Python and another backend language with modern front-end (React/TypeScript).
• DevOps mindset with a build-it, run-it approach.
• Experience implementing event-driven or distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, security and scalability trade-offs.
• Excellent stakeholder collaboration and clear technical communication.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test and run secure, production-grade software across front-end, back-end and integration services.
• Own projects from discovery through to deployment and ongoing support.
• Design and build APIs and integrations with external partners as part of data transformation.
• Build and operate solutions in AWS using modern DevOps and IaC practices.
• Contribute to digital experiences and future web technologies with cross-disciplinary teams.
• Make pragmatic architectural decisions balancing user needs, security, resilience and cost.
• Help shape engineering standards for code quality, testing and deployment.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and architecture discussions.
• Explore emerging technologies and apply them where value is added.
• Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver meaningful outcomes.
