Job summary

Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Digital Experience Engineering team. You’ll modernise data movement, own projects end‑to‑end, and help shape engineering standards while delivering secure, scalable services.

The role covers front-end, back-end and integrations, with a focus on AWS, DevOps, and IaC; a hybrid work pattern requires at least two days in the office weekly. DBS check is required and salary is £68,000 per year.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering production-grade software end-to-end.
• Full-stack capability across front-end and back-end.
• Designing and delivering REST APIs and integrations.
• Experience operating production workloads on AWS.
• Infrastructure as code experience, preferably Terraform.
• Proficiency in Python and a modern front-end framework (React/Svelte).
• DevOps mindset: build it, run it.
• Experience with event-driven or distributed systems.
• Strong software architecture and security understanding.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test and run secure production software across front-end, back-end and integrations.
• Take technical ownership of projects from discovery through deployment and support.
• Build APIs and integrations with external partners within our data transformation programme.
• Operate solutions in AWS with modern DevOps and IaC practices.
• Contribute to digital experiences, including websites and web technologies.
• Make pragmatic architectural decisions balancing user and organisational needs.
• Help shape engineering standards across code quality, testing, security and deployment.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and architecture discussions.
• Explore emerging technologies and approaches where they add value, including automation and AI.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand problems and deliver meaningful outcomes.
