Job summary

Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to lead the development of our cloud data platform. You will build and optimise data pipelines, ensure trusted data for teams, and mentor a Data Engineer.

This hands-on role drives the data capability, shapes the roadmap, and partners with CRM, fundraising and finance to deliver scalable, secure solutions. A strong SQL and cloud background is essential.

Qualifications

• Strong experience designing, building and maintaining modern cloud‑based data platforms and data pipelines.
• Advanced SQL skills with data modelling and transformations.
• Experience with SQL-based data warehouses; Snowflake knowledge is advantageous.
• Experience integrating data across systems using APIs/connectors.
• Knowledge of data quality, security, governance and handling of sensitive data.
• Ability to improve performance, reliability and cost of cloud data platforms.
• Ability to guide and mentor other data professionals.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder skills for non‑technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and continuous improvement of the cloud data platform.
• Design, build and optimise data pipelines, SQL data models and transformations.
• Build and maintain integrations between CRM, fundraising, finance and other systems.
• Shape the technical roadmap for the data platform, balancing needs with performance and cost.
• Set and maintain standards for data quality, security, governance and engineering best practice.
• Work with teams across the charity to understand their needs and turn them into practical data solutions.
• Lead and develop a Data Engineer, sharing knowledge and creating clear, effective ways of working.
