Job summary

Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Digital Experience Engineering team. You will help drive the Driven by Data programme, modernising data movement and building scalable services.

You will own projects across software, integrations, and cloud technologies, contributing to engineering standards and future-proofing the tech stack. A hands-on role with opportunities to mentor others and influence best practices.

Qualifications

• Hands-on software engineering with end-to-end delivery experience.
• Experience designing and delivering REST APIs and systems integrations.
• Strong AWS experience and production workloads operations.
• Proficient in Python with modern frontend tech (React/TypeScript).
• DevOps mindset: CI/CD, IaC, automation, monitoring.
• Ability to mentor engineers and drive architectural decisions.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test and run secure, production-grade software across front-end, back-end and integration services.
• Take technical ownership from discovery through deployment and support.
• Design and build APIs and integrations connecting systems and partners.
• Build and operate solutions in AWS using IaC and DevOps practices.
• Contribute to digital experiences including our website with multidisciplinary teams.
• Make architecture decisions balancing user needs, security, resilience and cost.
• Shape engineering standards around code quality, testing, security and deployment.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and architecture discussions.
• Explore emerging technologies and AI responsibly for business value.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate problems into practical solutions.
