Job summary

The University of Cambridge Information Services is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team delivering high-profile, cloud-native web systems and modernised applications. You will work hybrid, shaping architecture, testing rigor, and scalable deployments in Docker containers.

We value expert Python/Django, TypeScript/React, and strong API design. You will guide QA, reviews, and AI-assisted coding while delivering reliable services to a ~60,000 user

Qualifications

• Expert-level Python and Django development.
• Strong experience with web APIs and cloud-native services.
• Proficient in TypeScript and React for front-end work.
• Experience packaging apps in Docker containers and deploying to cloud.
• Thorough testing, CI/CD, and code-review discipline.

Responsibilities

• Architect secure-by-design web applications and APIs with maintainability in mind.
• Integrate applications via APIs and asynchronous tasks.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitLab for cloud deployment.
• Work with Google Cloud or similar platforms.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive architectural improvements.
