Job summary

Fawkes & Reece is seeking a Senior Site Manager for a reputable main contractor on a freelance basis. Immediate start on an £80m education project in Essex, delivering a three-storey secondary school with steel frame and brick facade, moving into fit-out and finishes.

You will report to the on-site Senior Project Manager and mentor junior site staff, coordinating with design and subcontractor teams, and ensuring buildability and H&S compliance to hit milestones through to handover.

Qualifications

• SMSTS qualification required.
• CSCS card essential.
• First Aid at Work certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Attend and contribute in contractor pre-start meetings.
• Attend and contribute in design team meetings.
• Chair weekly sub-contractor progress meetings; take and issue minutes.
• Attend safe starts.
• Approve RAMS.
• Review drawings, specifications, method statements, risk assessments, and construction information.
• Attend DABs and contribute; if necessary take the meeting and issue the DABs report.
• Enforce health & safety on site.
• Identify potential problems and offer buildability solutions.
• Be tech savvy; engage with supply chain and team members.
• Coordinate handover, snagging, completion, and close-out activities.
• Mentor and develop junior site managers, engineers, and supervisors.

Senior Site Manager

I’ve been tasked to find a Senior Site Manager for a reputable main contractor on a freelance basis. It is an immediate start and will finish in March 2028.

The project is a new build school worth circa £80m, including a new car park. It consists of building a primary school, secondary school and sports hall. You will building the secondary school which consists of a three storey steel frame structure and brick facade. Moving into the fit out and finishes.

You’ll be reporting to an on site Senior Project Manager and work in alongside another permanently employed Senior Site Manager who is building the primary school and sports hall.

Responsibilities for the Senior Site Manager

• Attending and contributing in contractor pre start meetings.
• Attending and contributing in design team meetings.
• Chairing weekly sub-contractor progress meetings, taking and issuing meeting minutes.
• Attending safe starts.

• Review drawings, specifications, method statements, risk assessments, and construction information.
• Attending DABS and contributing to the meeting, discussing coordination with other trades. If necessary taking the meeting, issuing the DABS report to all other team members.
