Job summary

Cobalt Recruitment is seeking an experienced Freelance Site Manager to lead an 18-week extension project at a live school in Manchester. You will manage day-to-day site operations, coordinate trades, and drive the programme to handover while maintaining strict Health & Safety standards in an occupied environment.

The role requires hands-on leadership on build and fit-out activities, RAMS reviews, toolbox talks, and close collaboration with the project team and client.

Qualifications

• Enhanced DBS, SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid at Work are required.
• Experience in managing construction and fit-out projects, ideally in schools or live environments.

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day management of the live construction site.
• Co-ordinate subcontractors and trades to maintain the programme.
• Drive the programme to achieve key deadlines.
• Manage both build and fit-out activities on site.
• Lead site inductions, RAMS reviews and toolbox talks.
• Maintain site records and documentation.
• Quality control, snagging and preparation for handover.
• Liaise with project team, client and stakeholders.
• Ensure the site remains safe, organised and professional throughout the works.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Freelance Site Manager to manage an 18-week extension project at a live school in Manchester.

The project will involve both build and fit-out works, and we are looking for a capable, hands-on Site Manager who can take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the site and drive the programme through to a successful handover.

Health & Safety is the number one priority for this role. As the project is within a school environment, we need someone with a strong track record of maintaining excellent site standards and managing works safely within an occupied/sensitive environment.

Key Responsibilities

This is initially an 18-week freelance assignment starting 28 September 2026, with a potential opportunity to move into a permanent position for the right person following successful completion of the project.
