Job Title: Senior Support Worker – Children’s Home

Location: Fareham, Hampshire

Salary: From £31,899.92 per annum

Hourly Rate: £16.58 – £20.73 per hour

Working Hours / Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week, including evenings, weekends and sleep‑ins

Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time

Service: Children’s Home

Experience Required: Minimum 1 year within Children’s Residential Care

Qualifications Required: NVQ Level 3 in Children’s Residential Care (or equivalent)

Driving Requirement: Full UK Driving Licence required

The Home: Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Support Worker to join their children’s residential team in Fareham. This is an opportunity for a confident and capable senior practitioner to support the Registered Manager in delivering high‑quality care, safeguarding young people, and leading shifts effectively.

This role would suit someone who enjoys mentoring junior staff, taking ownership during shifts, and creating a safe, nurturing and structured environment where children and young people can thrive.

Who we are looking for: We are looking for a Senior Support Worker who has previous experience within an Ofsted Registered Children’s Home and is confident managing challenging behaviours, safeguarding responsibilities, care planning, and leading a team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leading and delegating the staff team to ensure shifts are effectively planned and managed
  • Supporting and supervising junior team members
  • Assisting the Registered Manager with delegated management responsibilities
  • Participating in on‑call duties as required
  • Supporting the home to meet all safeguarding and regulatory requirements
  • Keeping up to date with relevant legislation, policies and best practice
  • Maintaining a safe, caring and structured environment
  • Challenging poor practice and escalating concerns appropriately
  • Recognising and celebrating young people’s progress and achievements
  • Managing challenging behaviours effectively
  • Attending professional meetings where required
  • Completing accurate reporting, documentation and record keeping
  • Supporting individualised care planning
  • Encouraging young people with daily goals, routines and activities
  • Promoting education, independence and life skills
