UWE Bristol has an exciting opportunity for a highly-motivated individual to join us as a Senior Research Technician on an Academy of Medical Sciences-funded project in the research group of Dr Lucy Crompton. The lab is focused on understanding the relationship between neuroinflammation and Parkinsons disease. Specifically, this project aims to characterise how astrocyte cells may mediate Parkinsons disease pathology in response to neuroinflammatory signals. The lab uses hiPSC-derived cells to generate a range of neural cell types to model neurodegenerative disease; the successful candidate will be involved in the generation of these models using our established protocols, as well as carrying out analysis of cellular samples generated in the lab. Youll support Dr Crompton in terms of technical support, the day-to-day running of the lab and assisting in the supervision of postgraduate students.
About You
Youll join enthusiastic a new research group at UWEs Centre for Biomedical Research, which benefits from a recent multimillion pound investment in new state-of-the-art laboratories, facilities and equipment.
Ideally, youve got a background in fundamental cell biology or neuroscience and significant laboratory experience in an appropriate area. Experience of tissue culture and Western blotting is essential. Previous experience in all or some of the following techniques would be highly advantageous: fixed and live-cell imaging, confocal microscopy, qPCR and cell transfection. In addition, an interest in neurodegeneration and cell biology, and knowledge of high-content proteomics would be a plus. A postgraduate graduate qualification in a relevant field would also be desirable (but not essential).
