Rolls-Royce SMR Limited is seeking a Senior Reactor System Design Engineer to lead the development of complex process and mechanical designs for the Reactor Island. You will translate high-level requirements into robust, evidence-based solutions compliant with regulatory standards.

You will contribute to the full lifecycle from concept through detailed design, substantiation, and licensing support, while guiding a growing engineering team in a hybrid Derby/Warrington/Manchester setup.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering complex system design in nuclear or similarly regulated industries.
• Engineering degree or equivalent experience in design delivery.
• Strong understanding of systems engineering concepts: requirements, integration, structured design.

Responsabilités

• Lead delivery of system design packages aligned to programme requirements and deadlines.
• Develop and manage system requirements with traceability and verification evidence.
• Produce high-quality documentation: design reports, system definitions, substantiation artefacts for safety cases and regulatory submissions.
• Collaborate with internal teams and regulators to resolve design challenges and maintain momentum.
• Identify and manage risks and opportunities within the design scope with mitigation plans.
• Apply design governance and assurance processes to maintain quality and compliance.
• Provide technical leadership to engineers and help grow team capability.
