Job summary

City of Doncaster Council is seeking a Senior Reablement Officer to support service users in returning to independent living within Positive Step Unit, Bentley, Doncaster.

The role is permanent and part-time (32 hours per week) with a pro rata salary grade 6 of £26,403–£27,255 depending on contracted hours; the 32-hour contract yields £22,343 with an 8.5% all-inclusive weekend/shift allowance. Closing date 13 September 2026; DBS required.

Qualifications

  • Experience of working in care is required.
  • Knowledge of working with Dementia would be desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Support people with daily living needs including personal care, nutrition, and emotional support.
  • Write clear, factual reports and monitor progress in care plans and review updates.
  • Assist with domestic duties and maintain unit health and safety procedures.
  • Cover shift patterns across 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.

Are you motivated to contribute and learn in a dynamic environment? We have an opportunity for you. In this role as Senior Reablement Officer, you will play an important part in delivering positive outcomes for people within our community.

Our Senior Reablement officers play a key role in ensuring that our service users are given every opportunity to return to living in their own home by supporting and re-enabling them during their short stay at Positive Step.

Duties include: Within this role you will support people using our service with their daily living needs including personal care, nutritional, social and emotional in line with their individual care plans. Facilitating stimulation and promoting independence. Support individuals with accessing new activities / opportunities and leisure interests whilst staying on the unit. You will implement and review person centred support plans, therapy plans in accordance with the unit’s good practice guide for care planning. You will have up to date knowledge of individual care by reading referral documentation, care plans and the unit’s communications systems and attending staff handovers daily. You will need the ability to write clear, factual and accurate reports of individual care, monitoring forms and ensure that any area of concern is reported immediately to the duty Manager. All duties will be undertaken with due regard to the dignity and choice of the individual. As required you will assist in domestic duties including basic cleaning schedules, the individual’s laundry and putting away clothing, bedding and towels. It is all employees’ responsibility for individual Health and Safety in the workplace and to be aware of other staff, service users and visitors to the unit’s health and well-being by adhering to the unit’s health and safety procedures.

What you will bring to the role:

As a Senior Reablement officer, you will be responsible for your unit whilst on shift, including the staff, guests on the unit and the environment. You will be responsible for identifying any issues and escalating these to the duty manager as appropriate.

The post is a requirement for shift working, working a rota pattern which covers 7 days a week and includes weekends and Bank Holidays. You will cover a combination of days and afters shifts within this role. The days and afters shifts are working between the hours of 07:00 hours and 22:00 hours. With flexibility being essential in all advertised roles.

We would expect you to be of a caring and patient nature, with the desire to assist individuals in achieving their goals. Experience of working in care is required and knowledge of working with Dementia would be desirable. However, we value a range of experiences and skills.
