Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join our Rail Stations and Civil Engineering team in the UK. You will lead the technical delivery of rail civil projects, shaping solutions that are safe, sustainable, and client-focused across the UK.

You will mentor early career professionals, collaborate with design teams and clients, and help grow the rail capability within the wider UK-wide team, embedding technical excellence at every stage of delivery.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or IEng with ICE.
• Experience as Contractor’s Responsible Engineer on rail projects, detailed design and design-build.
• Excellent understanding of railway structures, stations, bridges, assets and rail systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of rail civil engineering projects across the UK with emphasis on technical excellence and quality.
• Prepare, review and deliver high-quality engineering solutions that are safe, practical, sustainable and deliver optimal client outcomes.
• Promote and support technical excellence and knowledge sharing within the rail civil engineering team.
• Support multidisciplinary design teams, ensuring integration across civil, structural, geotechnical, architectural and rail systems disciplines.
• Identify and mitigate project risks, implementing effective solutions.
• Support project managers in achieving programme, budget and quality objectives.
• Collaborate with business development teams to identify and pursue new project opportunities.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and clients, rail discipline leads for engineering support.
• Mentor, coach and develop Early Career Professionals and other team members with a focus on technical excellence.
