Job summary

National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in Teddington is seeking a Quantum Network Software Engineer to design and build the control software for a secure quantum network testbed. You will work at the intersection of quantum communications, computing, distributed systems and classical networking to enable coordinated network operation of quantum nodes.

Qualifications

Strong software engineering experience.
Experience with distributed systems and orchestration platforms.
Experience with control stack architectures and internet protocols.
Network synchronization.
Ability to lead technical teams.
Rigorous problem solving approach.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Design and develop software architecture for quantum network orchestration, integrated with classical networking and cloud infrastructure.
Implement monitoring, control, telemetry, testing and fault-management capabilities.
Develop algorithms and software for quantum routing, entanglement distribution and resource scheduling.
Work with evolving quantum protocols and networking standards.
Contribute to scalable, secure, interoperable quantum networking platforms.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within NPL.
Engage with other quantum networks locally and internationally to evaluate approaches.
