Job summary

Nu Quantum in Cambridge, UK, is seeking a Systems Software Engineer to help create the tools our scientists need to develop, test and enhance our quantum networking solutions.

You will join a small, agile software team building interfaces with optics, electronics, FPGAs and embedded hardware, delivering high‑quality, testable code and robust workflows. The role emphasizes collaboration, coding standards and rapid iteration.

Qualifications

• Essential: Rust/C++, embedded systems (microcontrollers/SOC/FPGA), Python
• Experience with source control, CI, unit/integration testing, hardware-in-the-loop
• Strong communication and cross-functional teamwork

Responsibilities

• Develop software to interface with optics, electronics and hardware
• Collaborate with FPGA/electronics teams to enable state-of-the-art control systems
• Build user interfaces and tooling for lab use and prototyping
• Contribute to maintainable code and robust test suites
