Job summary

The Agency Limited in the United Kingdom seeks a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial side of projects, manage valuations and final accounts, and guide a growing QS team. You will liaison with clients and subcontractors to protect commercial interests and ensure accurate reporting.

Applicants should demonstrate extensive NEC/JCT contract knowledge, strong cost control, and the ability to drive commercial decisions on complex projects. A hands-on, project-focused attitude is essential.

Qualifications

• Strong Quantity Surveying experience within a construction or contracting environment.
• Solid understanding of NEC and JCT contracts, including contract administration and commercial risk.
• Experience managing valuations, variations, applications and final accounts.
• Strong commercial awareness and financial understanding.
• Confidence negotiating with clients and other commercial professionals.
• Experience identifying contractual risks before they become expensive problems.
• Good knowledge of construction processes and contractual obligations.
• Strong Excel and general IT skills.
• Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
• The confidence to challenge when needed without turning every conversation into a battle.
• Previous experience supporting or managing other QSs would be a real advantage.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing contracts and identifying commercial risks and opportunities
• Negotiating contract terms and protecting the business commercially
• Managing project costs, valuations and financial reporting
• Managing variations and ensuring additional works are properly instructed and valued
• Preparing and monitoring client accounts alongside the project team
• Carrying out Cost Value Reconciliations and monitoring project profitability
• Reviewing project performance against the original estimate
• Ensuring applications for payment are accurate and submitted on time
• Meeting with client Quantity Surveyors to agree applications, valuations and certified amounts
• Challenging outstanding instructions and ensuring contractual records are properly maintained
• Negotiating final accounts and outstanding payments
• Supporting Project and Contract Managers with commercial decision making
• Carrying out site measurements and surveying where required
• Liaising with clients, subcontractors and other members of the professional team
• Maintaining accurate commercial information and project records
• Producing end-of-project commercial reviews
• Supporting, managing and developing members of the QS team
