Job summary

Shepley Engineers Ltd. is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to contribute to the commercial and financial performance of a portfolio of works. The role involves contracting, cost control, and liaison with clients to secure timely payments and final accounts.

The candidate will manage trainee QSs, oversee payments and variations, and provide commercial support to estimating and procurement teams while ensuring contract compliance and effective communication with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Degree level or equivalent is required.
• 5+ years of contracting experience is required.
• IT literacy in Microsoft Office applications and advanced Excel skills are essential.
• Strong communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with clients and teams.

Responsibilities

• Review and manage contract terms and conditions.
• Develop and supervise Trainee Quantity Surveyors.
• Manage all Applications for Payments and contractual entitlements.
• Promptly submit estimates/tender information to clients.
• Present Final Accounts and monthly cost/value reconciliations.
• Procure and negotiate Sub-contracts and manage Sub-contractors through to Final Accounts.
• Liaise with clients on commercial matters and provide commercial support to teams.

Role:

The purpose of this role is to contribute to the commercial & financial management and profitable performance of our portfolio of works.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

The key tasks of this role include but are not limited to:

• Reviewing and Management of contract Terms & Conditions.


• Managing and developing of Trainee QS.


• Responsible for all Applications for Payments, including all contractual entitlements.


• Prompt submission of Estimate / Tendering information to the client.


• Prompt presentation of Final Accounts.


• Preparation and presentation of Monthly Cost/Value Reconciliations and Final Cost/Value Forecasts.


• Managing the Procurement, negotiation and placing of Sub-contract Orders.


• Financial and Commercial Management of Sub-contractors through to settlement of their Final Accounts.


• Ensuring that all notices and information are presented in accordance with the contract requirements.


• Responsible for preparation of appropriate documentation in support of additional payment, variations, claims etc.


• Commercial support to the management team.


• Commercial support to the Estimating and Procurement teams.


• Liaison with the client on all commercial matters, including preparation and submission of supporting information.

Requirements / Criteria:

Candidates for this role must be effective team players and should meet the following criteria:

• Be qualified to Degree level or equivalent


• Hold a degree of experience (5+ years)


• Hold previous Commercial experience within a contracting environment


• Preferably hold previous experience of working within the engineering/manufacturing sector


• Be IT literate in Microsoft Office applications, be an advance user of Excel.
