Job summary

O’Neill & Brennan is seeking experienced Quantity Surveyors and Senior Quantity Surveyors for a major two-year construction project in Plymouth, with hybrid working from Bristol or Plymouth. The role will focus on commercial management and delivering value across packages.

The successful candidate will have a background in Tier 1 main contracting or equivalent large-scale projects, with responsibility for procurement, payments, CVR reporting and change management.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor in a main contractor environment.
• Experience with Tier 1 contractors is preferred or equivalent.
• Ability to manage large construction packages and report costs and variations.

Responsibilities

Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor

Bristol / Plymouth | Hybrid Working
Up to £75,000 + Package – flexibility for the right candidate
Major Two-Year Construction Project

O’Neill & Brennan are currently looking to speak with experienced Quantity Surveyors and Senior Quantity Surveyors regarding a significant construction project in Plymouth, with approximately two years of secured project duration.

This is an opportunity that can accommodate candidates based around either Bristol or Plymouth, with a flexible working arrangement designed to avoid the requirement for constant long-distance travel.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will take a key commercial role on the project, working closely with the wider project and commercial teams throughout its delivery.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have developed their experience within a Tier 1 main contracting environment, or who can demonstrate comparable experience delivering sizeable and technically demanding construction projects.

Responsibilities will include:

• Commercial management of allocated packages from procurement through to final account
• Subcontractor procurement, negotiation and appointment
• Management of subcontractor accounts and payments
• Cost forecasting, reporting and CVRs
• Management of variations and change
• Identification and management of commercial risk
• Working closely with operational and project management teams
• Maintaining strong commercial controls throughout project delivery

Location & Working Arrangement

There is considerable flexibility around where the successful candidate is based.

Bristol-based candidates can work predominantly from Bristol, travelling to the Plymouth project approximately two days per week as required.

Alternatively, Plymouth-based candidates can be predominantly project-based, with travel to the Bristol office generally only required every couple of weeks.

The wider working arrangement offers three days project/office based with up to two days working from home per week.

Experience

Ideally, you will have:

• Experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor for a main contractor
• Preferably a background with a Tier 1 contractor
• Experience commercially managing substantial construction packages or projects
• Strong subcontract procurement and account management experience
• Good knowledge of cost reporting, forecasting and commercial controls
• The ability to operate with a good degree of commercial autonomy

Salary & Package

Salary up to £75,000 + comprehensive package

There is scope to consider a higher basic salary for an individual whose experience and track record warrant it.
