Position: Senior Quantity Surveyor
Sector: Main Contracting / Education
Project: £76m New-Build DfE School
Employment: Permanent
We are working with a leading Tier 1 main contractor that is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its established Eastern region.
The successful Senior Quantity Surveyor will take a leading commercial role on a major £76m new-build DfE school project in Thurston, Suffolk. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced surveyor looking to take ownership of a substantial project while joining a well-established main contractor with a strong pipeline of work across Suffolk, Cambridge and the wider Eastern region.
The business has a strong reputation for delivering major projects across education, healthcare, commercial and public-sector frameworks and continues to secure work throughout East Anglia.
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take commercial responsibility for the project, working closely with the wider project team to ensure it is delivered successfully from both a financial and contractual perspective.
You will be involved across the full commercial lifecycle of the scheme, including procurement, subcontractor management, cost reporting, valuations, variations and final accounts.
The role will suit someone comfortable operating at Senior Quantity Surveyor level on a major construction project and who enjoys having genuine ownership of the commercial delivery.
You will work closely with the Project Manager, operational team and regional commercial leadership while managing key subcontract packages and maintaining strong relationships with the client and supply chain.
Your responsibilities will include:
We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong main contracting background.
Ideally, you will have experience delivering major new-build projects within education, healthcare, commercial or another relevant sector. Previous DfE experience would be particularly useful, although this is not essential where candidates can demonstrate strong experience on comparable projects.
You should be commercially confident and comfortable taking responsibility for significant packages or leading the commercial function on a major scheme.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
The initial project is a major £76m new-build DfE school in Thurston, Suffolk, providing the successful candidate with the opportunity to take a key commercial role on one of the region's significant education schemes.
This is not simply an opportunity tied to one project. The contractor has an established presence across the Eastern region and a strong pipeline of future work, offering longer-term opportunities across Suffolk, Cambridge and the surrounding areas.
For someone looking for stability with a major Tier 1 contractor while remaining based in East Anglia, this represents an excellent long-term opportunity.
This position offers the chance to join a highly regarded Tier 1 main contractor with an established regional presence and a healthy pipeline of work.
Rather than joining a business for a single project with uncertainty around what comes next, you will be joining an established regional operation delivering major schemes across multiple sectors.
The role offers:
The initial project is based in Thurston, Suffolk, making the position particularly well suited to Senior Quantity Surveyors based around Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket, Ipswich, Thetford, Newmarket, Cambridge and the surrounding areas.
The role is primarily project/site based due to the nature and seniority of the position.
The contractor is offering a salary of up to £85,000, depending on experience, alongside a competitive benefits package.
There may be some flexibility depending on the strength and relevance of an individual's background, particularly for candidates with strong Tier 1 main contracting, education or DfE experience.
