Balfour Beatty Rail is recruiting a Senior Quality Engineer in London/Greater London to support Right First Time initiatives, external quality certification, and continual improvement across projects. You will oversee Quality Plans, audits, and non-conformity resolution, liaising with clients to meet contractual quality metrics.
Ideal candidates will have CQI membership, Lead Auditor experience, and strong knowledge of ISO9001:2015, with ability to coach teams and deliver reports and training.
Balfour Beatty Rail are recruiting for a Senior Quality Engineer to join the team and support right first time every time, external quality certification process and to drive the “Elimination of Waste”, “Right First Time” and Digital Progressive Assurance all through:
Supporting the delivery of the Contract self-certification requirements including conformance with the Quality Management systems, the LUL Works Information 600; implementation of the work package Quality Plans and handover at completion.
Support the delivery of the Business Unit and SBU Quality Action Plans applicable to the Traction Projects
Direct support and supervision of the Traction Quality Engineer.
Ensuring delivery of an inspection schedule for all site activities in line with the defined Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Plans and Client specific inspection system (QICC NOWRI and factory Inspection & Testing) .
Challenging current systems and processes to ensure best practice and continual improvement.
Where required support development of appropriate content for the business management system
Supporting quality related improvement initiatives- particularly Digital Progressive Assurance
Provide advice and coaching on Quality issues and snags
Manages the projects Non-Conformity and Root Cause Analysis
Ensure production and accuracy of required reports and management information in line with client contractual obligations and the business Quality Metrics.
Attend Client facing meetings in line with contractual obligations
Supporting Quality related training to equip the business and supply chain with the skills to drive Right First Time and improvements in Quality performance.
Interface with audit functions- Client and business to support locally where required.
Support Traction projects to ensure they are compliant with Balfour Beatty & contract specific requirements.
Where required provide Quality input to the tender development and bidding process. Support the delivery of the Building New Futures Strategy
Supports the business unit maintaining the external accreditation process (including ISO9001, ISO14001, OHSAS45001 and industry licence- RISQS) to ensure it can operate in its chosen sector.
Ensures compliance with LUL Works Information 600 Quality and related Standards on the multi-stage inspection and certification process, S1900 and PR0091.
Ensures that ITPs are produced to cover the appropriate activities and design standards and submitted to the Client for approval in advance of works.
Ensures subcontracted work activities are reviewed and approved for quality in advance of start of work on site, including Factory Acceptance Testing.
Ensures that Subcontractors provide manufacturing and fabrication certification in accordance with defined requirements as part of the Handover Assurance for the works.
Regularly reviews the self-certification requirements of the contract.
Produces regular reports for the projects on agreed KPIs for the works for client reports, monthly internal reviews and periodic Quality Focus Meetings with the client.
Leads on local audit activities as defined on the Schedule of Audits
Ideally possess experience of any of the following industries; Rail, Construction , Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering
Ideally Chartered Quality Professional and member of the CQI or appropriate engineering institute.
Experience as a Trained and competent Lead Auditor.
Experience of Electrical systems of design, build, installation, inspection and testing for Rail Power Supply.
Knowledge of BS EN ISO 9001:2015 and certification requirements.
This role requires a Disclosure (DBS) check.
