Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Principal Protection & Control Engineer to join our expanding Power Transmission and Distribution team. You will work on diverse projects, develop innovative P&C solutions, and ensure secure transmission with renewable integration across markets.

The role requires UK T&D experience, relay design knowledge, and engagement with clients. Hybrid working is supported, with focus on delivering design authority and successful project delivery.

Qualifications

• Qualified to degree level and ideally Chartered Engineer status.
• Knowledge of relay designs and UK practices; experience on international projects.
• Excellent communications skills.
• UK Transmission & Distribution experience; extensive Protection and Control experience.
• Desirable: TP141 commissioning qualification; familiarity with IEC61850; North American standards.

Responsibilities

• Work on diverse, industry-leading projects in power transmission and distribution.
• Develop innovative protection and control solutions and integration of renewables.
• Produce tender specifications and detailed design drawings for P&C schemes.
• Carry out fault studies and set protection using study results; check outputs.
• Configure relays and advise on commissioning stages; ensure design authorisation.
