South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority is seeking a proactive and motivated Senior Programme Officer to join our Programme Delivery Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in managing a portfolio of funded programmes and projects that support South Yorkshire's strategic priorities and deliver benefits for residents, businesses and communities.
As a Senior Programme Officer, you will work across the full project lifecycle, from business case development and approval through to delivery, monitoring, evaluation and closure. You will help ensure that funded programmes are well-governed, financially robust and aligned with organisational objectives, while supporting continuous improvement and the sharing of best practice across the organisation.
This role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile projects, engage with a wide range of stakeholders and contribute directly to major investments that make a lasting impact across South Yorkshire.
As a Senior Programme Officer, you will take the lead on a portfolio of housing programmes and projects, supporting delivery partners and scheme promoters to develop high-quality proposals and successfully deliver new homes in South Yorkshire.
You will provide guidance and challenge throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring projects are managed effectively, funding agreements are robust, risks are identified and mitigated, and reporting requirements are met. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, you will help ensure projects remain on track, deliver agreed outcomes and comply with governance and assurance requirements.
The role includes monitoring financial performance, processing funding claims, supporting change control processes, maintaining accurate programme information and preparing reports for senior leaders and decision‑making boards. You will also contribute to programme reviews, evaluation activity and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen programme delivery across SYMCA.
In addition, you will provide support and guidance to Programme Officers and colleagues within the team, helping to build capability and promote consistent, high-quality programme management practices.
You are an organised and analytical programme professional with experience of managing projects or programmes through different stages of the delivery lifecycle. You are confident working in a fast‑paced environment, balancing competing priorities and building productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
