SYMCA’s Integrated Settlement included £9.4m to prevent homelessness and increase supported housing, as well as more recently rough sleeping allocation of £9m to support the Prime Minister’s ambitions to end rough sleeping. We are growing our team to drive forward this important agenda.

This is an exciting opportunity to join SYMCA’s Housing and Infrastructure Team and lead the development of a regional approach to preventing homelessness and improving supported housing provision across South Yorkshire.

This is a rapidly growing team and we are also in the process of recruiting two Homelessness and Supported Housing Policy Officers.

About the role

As Homelessness and Supported Housing Manager, you will lead the development and delivery of SYMCA’s Homelessness and Supported Housing Programme and help shape future devolved responsibilities relating to homelessness prevention and supported housing.

The role will provide strategic leadership for the region’s homelessness prevention agenda, ensuring funding and resources are directed towards interventions that maximise impact and deliver meaningful outcomes. You will oversee programme development, manage a team of officers, support the Deputy Mayor for Policing in their role as Chair of the Homelessness Taskforce, and ensure homelessness prevention is embedded within wider regional strategies and priorities.

You will also lead stakeholder engagement, identify future funding opportunities, and provide high‑quality advice, reports and briefings to senior leaders, elected members and partner organisations.

Reporting directly to the Head of Housing Policy and Strategy, you will:

  • Lead on the development and delivery of a Homelessness and Supported Housing Delivery Programme and regional framework to ensure our devolved Homelessness and Supported Housing Funding and additional Rough Sleeping Funding achieves maximum outcomes in preventing homelessness.
  • Lead the Homelessness and Supported Housing Team.
  • Lead on developing greater understanding of homelessness across SYMCA and its inter‑relatedness with other devolved functions.
  • Work in collaboration with key stakeholders, working alongside people with lived experience, Local Authorities, VCFS, public sector partners and housing providers to prevent homelessness, including through increased good quality supported housing outcomes.
About you

You will bring:

  • An in‑depth understanding of homelessness gained through working in the sector.
  • Experience of developing and delivering funding programmes.
  • An excellent partnership and innovative approach to maximising homelessness prevention outcomes.

You will be an experienced leader with a strong understanding of homelessness prevention, supported housing and the wider policy landscape, including the opportunities presented through devolution.

You will have experience of leading programmes and partnerships, working collaboratively across organisational boundaries, and engaging effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including people with lived experience. You will be confident managing complex projects, influencing decision‑makers and driving positive change in challenging environments.

With excellent communication, organisational and problem‑solving skills, you will be passionate about improving outcomes for vulnerable people and helping deliver a coordinated regional response to homelessness across South Yorkshire.
