Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Process Engineer for a Randburg, Gauteng facility. The role focuses on optimizing existing chemical processes, developing new manufacturing methods, and ensuring safe, sustainable production of high-value specialty chemicals.

You will work in a hybrid setup with on-site collaboration with operations and R&D teams. You should have an MSc or PhD in Chemical Engineering with 7+ years of experience, strong knowledge of reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and DOE.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Chemical Engineering required.
• Minimum of 7 years in process engineering within the chemical industry, preferably specialty chemicals.
• Proven track record in process optimization, troubleshooting, and scale-up.
• Strong knowledge of reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and separation processes.
• Experience with process simulation software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead process optimization projects to improve efficiency, yield, and product quality.
• Develop and implement new process technologies and manufacturing procedures.
• Analyze plant data to identify trends, troubleshoot operational issues, and recommend improvements.
• Design and execute pilot plant trials and scale-up activities for new products.
• Ensure processes comply with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
• Prepare process documentation, including PFDs, P&IDs, and operating manuals.
• Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and production teams to ensure successful technology transfer and implementation.
• Evaluate and recommend process equipment upgrades and modifications.
• Provide technical support to the production team, resolving complex process challenges.
• Mentor junior engineers and share technical expertise.
