Aldwych Consulting is recruiting a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer in Birmingham to lead the mechanical design and delivery of building services projects. You will collaborate with clients, senior stakeholders and design teams from early concept through to construction.

Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in building services engineering, strong HVAC knowledge, and a track record of managing projects with UK standards compliance.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer to join a growing building services consultancy in Birmingham.

Established for more than 25 years, this independently owned consultancy delivers mechanical, electrical and building performance engineering solutions across a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, commercial, education, residential, life sciences, leisure and public sector projects.

The Birmingham office is entering an exciting period of growth, with ambitious plans to significantly expand the team over the coming years. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to play an important role in the development of the office while continuing to progress their own career.

The Role

As a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will take responsibility for the delivery of mechanical building services projects across a varied portfolio.

You will work closely with clients, senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary design teams, providing technical expertise and helping to deliver projects from early design through to construction.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the mechanical design and delivery of projects.
• Designing HVAC, heating, ventilation, cooling and domestic water systems.
• Producing and reviewing design calculations, specifications, reports and technical documentation.
• Taking technical responsibility for mechanical engineering packages.
• Coordinating designs with electrical, BIM, sustainability and other project teams.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in building services consultancy.

You will ideally have:

• Significant experience in mechanical building services engineering.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC and mechanical systems.
• Experience taking projects from concept through to detailed design and construction.
• A degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
• Good knowledge of relevant UK standards and regulations.
• Strong client-facing and communication skills.
• Experience managing your own projects and taking technical responsibility.
• Experience supporting, mentoring or developing less experienced engineers.
• Revit experience is desirable.
• An interest in sustainable and low-carbon building design.
• For Principal-level candidates, experience providing technical leadership and taking responsibility for larger or more complex projects would be advantageous.
