Job summary

Aldwych Consulting is seeking a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer for its Birmingham office. You will lead mechanical design and delivery across varied sectors, collaborate with clients and design teams, and mentor junior engineers.

The role offers hybrid working flexibility and opportunities to influence growth of the Birmingham office. Revit experience is desirable and UK standards knowledge is required.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in mechanical building services engineering.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC and building services systems.
• Experience delivering projects from concept through to construction.
• Degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
• Knowledge of UK standards and regulations; strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and delivery of projects.
• Design HVAC, heating, ventilation, cooling and domestic water systems.
• Produce and review design calculations, specifications, reports and docs.
• Take technical responsibility for mechanical engineering packages.
• Coordinate designs with electrical, BIM, sustainability and other teams.
• Attend and contribute to client and design team meetings.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and other consultants.
• Carry out site visits, surveys and inspections as required.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior/engineer staff.
• Contribute to low-carbon design strategies.
• At Principal level, take wider leadership role across projects and grow Birmingham team.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer to join a growing building services consultancy in Birmingham.

Established for more than 25 years, this independently owned consultancy delivers mechanical, electrical and building performance engineering solutions across a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, commercial, education, residential, life sciences, leisure and public sector projects.

The Role

As a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will take responsibility for the delivery of mechanical building services projects across a varied portfolio.

You will work closely with clients, senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary design teams, providing technical expertise and helping to deliver projects from early design through to construction.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the mechanical design and delivery of projects.
• Designing HVAC, heating, ventilation, cooling and domestic water systems.
• Producing and reviewing design calculations, specifications, reports and technical documentation.
• Taking technical responsibility for mechanical engineering packages.
• Coordinating designs with electrical, BIM, sustainability and other project teams.
• Attending and contributing to client and design team meetings.
• Liaising with clients, contractors and other consultants.
• Carrying out site visits, surveys and inspections where required.
• Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior and intermediate engineers.
• Contributing to sustainable and low-carbon design strategies.
• At Principal level, taking a wider leadership role across projects and supporting the continued growth of the Birmingham team.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in building services consultancy.

You will ideally have:

• Significant experience in mechanical building services engineering.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC and mechanical systems.
• Experience taking projects from concept through to detailed design and construction.
• A degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
• Good knowledge of relevant UK standards and regulations.
• Strong client-facing and communication skills.
• Experience managing your own projects and taking technical responsibility.
• Experience supporting, mentoring or developing less experienced engineers.
• Revit experience is desirable.
• An interest in sustainable and low-carbon building design.
• For Principal-level candidates, experience providing technical leadership and taking responsibility for larger or more complex projects would be advantageous.
