Job summary

Aldwych Consulting Ltd, a Birmingham-based building services consultancy, is seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team. The role offers hybrid working flexibility and the chance to work on healthcare, commercial, education, residential and public-sector projects across a dynamic range of clients.

You will support the delivery of mechanical designs from concept through to construction, assist with calculations and technical assessments, prepare drawings and specifications, and

Qualifications

• Professional experience in mechanical engineering or building services.
• Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
• Some HVAC and mechanical building services design experience.
• Knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, Hevacomp or IES.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Support the design of mechanical building services across projects.

Junior Mechanical Engineer

Birmingham | Building Services Consultancy | Hybrid Flexibility

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join a growing building services consultancy in Birmingham.

Established for more than 25 years, this independently owned consultancy delivers mechanical, electrical and building performance engineering solutions across a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, commercial, education, residential, life sciences, leisure and public sector projects.

The business has built a strong reputation for technically high-quality, sustainable and low-carbon design, with a collaborative culture and a strong focus on developing its people.

The Birmingham office is entering an exciting period of growth, with plans to significantly expand the team over the coming years. This creates an excellent opportunity for an engineer who already has some industry experience and is looking to develop their skills and take the next step in their career.

The Role

As a Junior Mechanical Engineer, you will support the delivery of mechanical building services designs across a varied range of projects, working closely with experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams.

You will have the opportunity to gain further experience across projects from concept through to detailed design and construction.

Typical responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the design of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and domestic water systems.
• Assisting with mechanical design calculations and technical assessments.
• Preparing drawings, specifications, reports and other technical documentation.
• Supporting senior engineers with the delivery of projects.
• Coordinating with electrical, BIM and sustainability teams.
• Attending client, design team and site meetings.
• Contributing to projects across healthcare, commercial, residential, education and public sectors.
• Developing your knowledge of sustainable and low-carbon building design.

About You

This is not a graduate position. Previous professional experience in mechanical engineering or building services is required.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience working in a mechanical engineering or building services environment.
• A degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
• Some experience with HVAC and mechanical building services design.
• Knowledge of software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Hevacomp or IES.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• A willingness to learn and develop technically.
• An interest in progressing your career within building services engineering.
• A desire to work towards professional development and, where appropriate, Chartership.
