Job summary

Stantec in the UK is seeking a Senior Principal Hydraulic Engineer to lead strategic technical direction across major AMP8 programmes and beyond. You will shape technical standards, deliver complex hydraulic solutions, and influence nationally significant water infrastructure projects.

You will mentor engineers, drive governance, and strengthen client partnerships while expanding the hydraulic engineering capability across the business. This role offers hybrid working in the Cambridge area.

Qualifications

Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Hydraulic Engineering or related discipline.
CEng or equivalent recognised chartership.
Extensive experience delivering complex hydraulic projects in the UK water sector.
Expertise in fluid mechanics, hydraulic structures, pumping systems and transient analysis.
Experience using hydraulic modelling tools such as HADES, VARISM or Flow-3D.

Responsibilities

Act as the senior technical authority for complex hydraulic engineering across multiple frameworks.
Set technical direction, governance and standards for hydraulic projects.
Provide technical assurance for nationally significant water and wastewater programmes.
Build and maintain strategic client relationships as trusted advisor.
Lead multidisciplinary technical reviews and promote innovative delivery methods.
Mentor senior engineers and support succession planning.
Support framework leadership and growth of hydraulic engineering capability.
