Job summary

NSD in Northwood, London is seeking a permanent Database Administrator with strong PostgreSQL and Oracle expertise. The role covers both cloud and on‑prem environments, focusing on performance tuning, clustered failover, and robust data modelling.

Collaboration with development and infra teams is essential, with a hybrid working pattern in place. The role requires hands-on PostgreSQL and Oracle experience, with a view to managing diverse data sources and implementing reliable backup/recovery

Qualifications

• Must have hands-on PostgreSQL DBA experience beyond basic exposure.
• Experience with Oracle 19c or 21c is required.
• Strong PostgreSQL performance tuning experience including index tuning and query optimisation.
• Experience managing PostgreSQL/Oracle clusters and failover.
• Solid data modelling experience.
• Collaborative with development and infra teams.

Responsibilities

• Own application database environments across cloud and on‑premise.
• Manage PostgreSQL database clusters across environments.
• Monitor, tune, and optimise PostgreSQL performance.
• Administer and maintain Oracle 19c/21c databases.
• Manage data migrations between database instances, including offline environments.
• Own data models and lifecycle within the database.
• Design, create, and manage schemas, tables, and views.
• Optimise performance through index tuning, plan analysis, and partitioning.
• Manage database clusters and failover strategies.
• Define and implement backup and recovery strategies.
• Manage security, roles, permissions, and RLS controls.
• Collaborate with infrastructure on installation and patching.
• Work with data pipeline engineers/scientists to ingest diverse data sources.
• Apply best practices for storing JSON objects in PostgreSQL.
