Job summary

Zopa is seeking a skilled Database Engineer to manage mission-critical PostgreSQL and AWS services. You will automate DBA tasks, improve backups and monitoring, and collaborate with Cloud Infrastructure to standardise platforms.

You will help shift from SQL Server to PostgreSQL and participate in a supportive on-call culture. Hybrid role in London with 2-3 days at the office, plus the option to work abroad up to 120 days per year.

Qualifications

• Experience with AWS and mission-critical database services.
• Strong PostgreSQL knowledge including backup/restore.
• Terraform and CI/CD experience with automation focus.
• Experience providing on-call support for production services.
• A practical database-engineering mindset and platform automation.
• Ability to reason about reliability, resilience, security and operability.
• Collaborative working style with platform engineers.

Responsibilities

• Support mission-critical PostgreSQL and AWS database services with strong operational discipline.
• Automate repeatable DBA work using infrastructure-as-code and deployment pipelines.
• Improve backup, restore, monitoring and replication practices.
• Partner with Cloud Infrastructure on AWS, Terraform and platform patterns.
• Help engineers self-serve database capabilities safely with guardrails.
• Contribute to moving from SQL Server to PostgreSQL.
• Join the on-call rota and reduce alerting and toil.
