We are currently seeking a Senior Piping Materials Engineer to join our Mechanical Engineering team based in London or Milton Keynes.

About the opportunity: A Senior Piping Materials Engineer is needed for major energy transition, olefins, refinery, and petrochemical projects globally. The role requires experience in piping materials for oil and gas projects, understanding project activities and deliverables, and leading piping materials selection, specification development, and cost estimation through project phases.

Role responsibilities include:

1. Developing and delivering piping materials specifications and class specifications for various project phases.
2. Carrying out piping material take-offs and managing bill of quantities for estimating and procurement.
3. Performing qualitative analysis of piping material take-offs.
4. Developing piping material specifications and datasheets per relevant codes (e.g., ASME, BS, NACE).
5. Calculating pipe wall thickness and flange ratings.
6. Establishing piping branch tables.
7. Developing and delivering valve datasheets and technical specifications for piping supply.
8. Preparing piping material requisitions and conducting vendor technical evaluations.
9. Reviewing vendor documentation for compliance.
10. Supporting development of material selection diagrams and welding/fabrication procedures.
11. Providing piping material expertise and presenting technical issues to clients and stakeholders.
12. Adhering to and improving discipline and corporate procedures and standards.
13. Leading piping material activities across multiple offices and contributing to project proposals.
14. Preparing and reviewing engineering procedures, specifications, and documentation.

About you:

• Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent.
• Experience with onshore piping materials in petrochemical plants.
• Pre-FEED, FEED, and EPC project experience as a piping materials engineer.
• Knowledge of piping standards (European, American, International).
• Experience in material take-off, estimation, requisitions, and procurement management.
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lead multi-office projects and be self-motivated.
• Willing to travel within the UK and internationally.

Desirable:

• Experience with piping management software (e.g., Smart Materials).
• Proficiency in 2D CAD (AutoCAD, MicroStation) and 3D CAD (E3D, S3D).
• Stress analysis software experience.
• Modularization, site experience, UK project experience, and involvement in energy transition projects.
• Membership in engineering institutions.
