Job summary

Taylor Root is seeking an Associate Director, Professional Indemnity on a 12-month maternity cover contract, based in London or Manchester. You will manage complex professional indemnity matters and advise senior management on contentious risk across the UK and EMEA.

Reporting to the Office of General Counsel, you will develop policies, oversee insurers and external counsel, supervise junior lawyers, and translate trends into practical risk-management initiatives for the firm.

Qualifications

• Significant experience managing contentious risk issues within an international law firm.
• Experience providing legal and strategic advice to senior lawyers and business leaders.
• Strong technical knowledge of professional indemnity, claims management and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of the SRA Code of Conduct and SRA Indemnity Insurance Rules.
• The ability to manage sensitive and complex issues with discretion, pragmatism and sound commercial judgement.
• Excellent stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills.
• Experience leading cross-functional projects or contributing to strategic and cultural change.
• Previous insurance experience would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Managing complex professional indemnity claims, potential claims and related litigation.
• Advising senior stakeholders on contentious professional risk and reputational issues.
• Overseeing notifications and liaising with insurers, brokers and external legal counsel.
• Supporting the placement and renewal of the firm’s global professional risk insurance programme.
• Acting as Complaints Counsel across the UK and EMEA.
• Identifying claims and complaints trends and translating these into practical risk-management initiatives.
• Developing policies, guidance, processes and training to strengthen professional risk standards.
• Contributing to reports for the Board, Audit and Risk Committee and other senior stakeholders.
• Supervising junior lawyers and trainees supporting claims, complaints and wider professional risk work.
