Job summary

George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician for a 37.5 hour per week permanent role. The post involves rotational late night, weekend and bank holiday working, with opportunities for development through the BAND 4-5 STEP programme.

The successful candidate will supervise rotational technicians, dispense prescriptions, support ward pharmacists and participate in medicines management and discharge processes within a supportive, clinically-led team.

Qualifications

• GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician with 2 years post-registration experience
• Eligible for Band 4 to 5 STEP programme if not full post-registration experience
• Must be able to work Saturdays/Sundays on a rota

Responsibilities

• Dispense prescriptions including TTOs and inpatient/outpatient items in line with safe systems
• Contribute to accuracy checking and use prescription tracker to monitor workflow
• Co-operate in staff rotation across pharmacy departments and wards
• Assist with medicines management, reconciliation and discharge processes

**To be eligible for this post you must be a GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician with 2 years post registration experience. Consideration will be given to the appropriate candidate to be employed on a Band 4 to 5, 12-month STEP programme should they not have full post registration experience**

Main duties of the job

• To carry out pharmaceutical technical duties in specified areas of the pharmacy department under the overall direction of the Lead Pharmacy Technicians and the Chief Pharmacist.
• To provide a safe, efficient and comprehensive high quality pharmaceutical service, under the direction of Lead Pharmacy Technicians to patients and staff of George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust.
• To undertake training and accreditation in technical skills and knowledge as identified and agreed with Lead Pharmacy Technicians and the Chief Pharmacist.
• Supervise and manage rotational pharmacy technicians on a day to day basis to support workload and workflow

Job responsibilities

• To carry out dispensing of prescriptions both TTOs and inpatient/ OSD supplies, including extemporaneous prescriptions, unlicensed drugs, controlled drugs, in-patient and outpatient prescriptions in accordance with the agreed safe systems of work practice.
• To contribute to the final accuracy checking of dispensary work on a rotational basis when required and use the prescription tracker system to monitor workflow.
• To co-operate in staff rotation within the pharmacy departments of the trust, ward based working and outpatient areas.
• To assist with medicines management on wards to provide medicines reconciliation and drug histories.
• To assist with the discharge of patients and provide support to ward pharmacists with TTO preparation using in-house discharge systems.

Qualification and Training

• NVQ 3 or equivalent (e.g. BTech) or knowledge of pharmaceutical technical procedures acquired through training in equivalent pharmaceutical science and recent relevant work experience.
• Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
• Evidence of CPD.

Experience & Knowledge

• Hospital pharmacy experience (Ward Top-up, Aseptic dispensing, Dispensing for In & Out Patients).
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to prioritise work.
• Ability to problem solve.
• Community pharmacy experience.
