Job summary

George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust in Nuneaton is seeking a GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician for a 37.5 hour-per-week rota. This permanent post involves rotational duties including late night, weekend and bank holiday working.

You will dispense prescriptions, supervise rotating technicians, contribute to accuracy checks, support medicines management on wards and assist with discharge processes. Eligible candidates may be appointed on Band 4 or Band 5 with a 12‑month STEP programme.

Qualifications

• GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician with 2 years post-registration experience.
• NVQ 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical technology.
• Evidence of CPD.

Responsibilities

• Dispense prescriptions (TTOs and inpatient/outpatient) in accordance with safe systems of work.
• Contribute to final accuracy checking and use prescription tracker to monitor workflow.
• Co-operate with staff rotation within the pharmacy department and ward areas.
• Assist medicines management on wards, including reconciliation and drug histories.
• Assist with patient discharge and TTO preparation using in-house systems.

**To be eligible for this post you must be a GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician with 2 years post registration experience. Consideration will be given to the appropriate candidate to be employed on a Band 4 to 5, 12-month STEP programme should they not have full post registration experience**

Main duties of the job

• To carry out pharmaceutical technical duties in specified areas of the pharmacy department under the overall direction of the Lead Pharmacy Technicians and the Chief Pharmacist.
• To provide a safe, efficient and comprehensive high quality pharmaceutical service, under the direction of Lead Pharmacy Technicians to patients and staff of George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust.
• To undertake training and accreditation in technical skills and knowledge as identified and agreed with Lead Pharmacy Technicians and the Chief Pharmacist.
• Supervise and manage rotational pharmacy technicians on a day to day basis to support workload and workflow

Job responsibilities

• To carry out dispensing of prescriptions both TTOs and inpatient/ OSD supplies, including extemporaneous prescriptions, unlicensed drugs, controlled drugs, in-patient and outpatient prescriptions in accordance with the agreed safe systems of work practice.
• To contribute to the final accuracy checking of dispensary work on a rotational basis when required and use the prescription tracker system to monitor workflow.
• To co-operate in staff rotation within the pharmacy departments of the trust, ward based working and outpatient areas.
• To assist with medicines management on wards to provide medicines reconciliation and drug histories.
• To assist with the discharge of patients and provide support to ward pharmacists with TTO preparation using in-house discharge systems.

Qualification and Training

• NVQ 3 or equivalent (e.g. BTech) or knowledge of pharmaceutical technical procedures acquired through training in equivalent pharmaceutical science and recent relevant work experience.
• Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
• Evidence of CPD.

Experience & Knowledge

• Hospital pharmacy experience (Ward Top-up, Aseptic dispensing, Dispensing for In & Out Patients).
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to prioritise work.
• Ability to problem solve.
• Community pharmacy experience.
