Job summary

Newgate Medical Group in Worksop is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join a busy primary care Pharmacy Team. You will support medicines optimisation, carry out medication reviews and medicines reconciliation, and help with DOAC optimisation to improve patient safety and outcomes.

The role combines four days on-site with one day working from home, with potential for additional hybrid arrangements after probation as service needs evolve.

Qualifications

• Registered Pharmacy Technician with GPhC and eligible to practice in the UK.
• Enrolled in or qualified from PCPEP or MOCH pathway where applicable.
• Experience in medicines optimisation and medication safety is essential.

Newgate Medical Group is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our expanding Pharmacy Team.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a supportive, forward-thinking primary care team committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. Working alongside experienced Clinical Pharmacists, GPs, nurses and other healthcare professionals, you will play a key role in supporting medicines optimisation, improving prescribing safety and enhancing patient outcomes across our practice population of over 30,000 patients.

The role offers a varied mix of patient-facing and non-patient-facing responsibilities, including medication reviews, medicines reconciliation, repeat prescribing support, high-risk medicines monitoring, Direct Oral Anticoagulant (DOAC) optimisation, clinical audits and quality improvement projects.

Main duties of the job

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will support the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care across the practice. Your responsibilities will include medicines optimisation, medication reviews, repeat prescribing support, medicines reconciliation, prescribing safety, quality improvement initiatives and working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team.

Job responsibilities

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will work under the supervision of the Lead Clinical Pharmacist to support the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred pharmaceutical care across the practice.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting medicines optimisation and prescribing safety initiatives.
• Undertaking medication reviews and medicines reconciliation.
• Managing repeat prescribing processes and responding to medication queries.
• Completing clinical searches, audits and quality improvement projects.
• Supporting delivery of QOF, Enhanced Services and medicines optimisation initiatives.
• Working collaboratively with GPs, Clinical Pharmacists, Nurses, Community Pharmacies and Secondary Care providers.
• Supporting care home medicines optimisation and transfer of care processes.
• Contributing to service development and continuous improvement across the practice.
• Supporting the education and development of trainee Pharmacy Technicians, Foundation Trainee Pharmacists and other learners where appropriate.
• Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively with people at all levels by telephone, email and face to face
• Knowledge of IT systems, including ability to use word processing skills, emails and the internet to create simple plans and reports

Qualifications Essential

• Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
• Meets the qualification and registration requirements of the GPhC.
• Enrolled in, undertaking or qualified from, an approved training pathway. For example, the Primary Care Pharmacy Educational Pathway (PCPEP) or Medicines Optimisation in Care Homes (MOCH)
• Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
• Commitment to ongoing professional development.
• Experience working as a registered Pharmacy Technician.
• Experience supporting medicines optimisation and medication safety.
• Experience managing repeat prescribing and medicines reconciliation.
• Experience dealing with medication queries from patients and healthcare professionals.
