Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

Senior Clinical Effectiveness Pharmacist Band 8a 22.2 hour permanent post.

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

We are seeking a driven, adaptable and progressive pharmacist looking to take on the role of Senior Clinical Effectiveness Pharmacist in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. This is a rare and exciting opportunity within our dynamic Medicines Information and Governance Team (MI&G) and is available as a permanent Band 8a 22,2 hour position.

The primary purpose of this role is to lead collaborative work with senior pharmacists, consultants and other senior colleagues within the multidisciplinary team to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of our medicines resource.

This includes:

1. Building intelligence on the use of specific medicines in line with GGC priorities to inform discussions at ADTC, PMG and Pharmacy Services on whether further work is required to maximise performance of our medicines resource;

2. Deliver on specific pieces of work commissioned by ADTC, PMG and Pharmacy Services;

3. To author guidance on safe and effective prescribing in collaboration with relevant stakeholders;

4. To support education and training delivery across MI&G

This post also includes a patient-facing clinical pharmacy commitment.

No prior specific experience in Clinical Effectiveness is required for this post as the successful candidate will be supported in their development in this area.

Applicants are expected to be confident in their clinical and interpersonal skills and to understand the role prescribing governance play in promoting safe, effective and patient focused delivery of pharmaceutical care.

Attention to detail, competent skills in dealing with data and excellent written and verbal communication skills are key attributes as well as being a self motivated and dedicated team player. Applicants from all background of pharmacy will be considered.

This post is based at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary or the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Scotland’s biggest city with easy access to the rest of the West of Scotland and the Central Belt via road and public transport.
