Job summary

James Hall Group is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead end-to-end payroll operations across multiple sectors, including our SPAR payroll bureau. You will head the Payroll Team within the Accounts Department and report to the Group Finance Director.

The role requires strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, pensions, HMRC reporting, RTI, and a passion for accuracy and continuous improvement in a multi-company environment.

Qualifications

• Strong technical knowledge of UK payroll legislation, pension schemes, and HMRC requirements.
• Attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
• Confident written and verbal communicator across finance, HR, and operations.
• Proven ability to lead and develop teams.
• Proficient in Excel and payroll software.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the full end-to-end payroll process for multiple payrolls across the Group.
• Ensure accurate calculation and processing of pension contributions and deductions.
• Prepare and submit statutory reports such as Gender Pay Gap and Employment surveys.
• Maintain timely reporting to HMRC including RTI submissions, P60s and P11Ds.
• Investigate and resolve post-payroll queries with internal teams.
• Manage payroll-related balance sheet reconciliation and General Ledger postings.
• Act as primary contact for payroll-related audits with internal and external auditors.
• Lead and develop the Payroll Team and provide ongoing training.
• Support implementation of new payroll schemes or legislative changes.
• Provide payroll cost reports and analysis for budgeting and forecasting.
