Job summary

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust seeks a whole-time consultant in paediatric anaesthesia to provide safe perioperative care for elective and emergency paediatric cases. The post involves supervision of junior doctors, development of services and regular neonatal surgery exposure.

The successful candidate will have a fellowship in paediatric anaesthesia and FRCA or equivalent, with responsibility for non-resident on-call duties and participation in multidisciplinary pathways and

Qualifications

• Fellowship in paediatric anaesthesia is essential.
• Clinical skills to cover all aspects of the job plan.
• Experience with quality improvement and audit is desirable.
• Experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees.
• Evidence of recent research and development activity.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe paediatric anaesthetic service for elective and emergency care.
• Share day-to-day patient management with colleagues.
• Support elective and emergency theatre sessions including neonatal surgery.
• Participate in the non-resident paediatric on-call rota (1 in 9.5).
• Run high-risk paediatric anaesthesia outpatient clinics.
• Collaborate with paediatric surgery, radiology, pain, pre-assessment and theatre teams.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary case discussions and perioperative decision-making.
• Supervise, train, appraise and assess junior medical staff.
• Cover colleagues' annual leave and other absences as needed.
• Contribute to service development, business planning and governance meetings.
• Maintain CPD, appraisal and revalidation; complete Trust induction and competency programmes.
