Job Description:

We are the internal recruitment partner for The Peterborough School (thepeterboroughschool.co.uk), a leading Independent Day School set in beautiful grounds close to Peterborough city centre, and are presenting an exciting opportunity for a Senior Childcare Practitioner to join the team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced childcare professional to step into a senior role, supporting the Room Leader and Deputy Room Leader in leading a team of dedicated practitioners and delivering an exceptional standard of care and education for young children.

As a Senior Practitioner, you will play a key role in the daily running of the room, providing leadership and inspiration to colleagues, and creating an engaging, inclusive, and stimulating environment for the children in your care.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Room Leader and Deputy in leading and inspiring a team of childcare practitioners.
  • Deliver high quality learning experiences in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • Act as a key person for a group of children, maintaining accurate online learning journals (Tapestry) and liaising closely with families.
  • Model outstanding childcare practice and contribute to the development of team members and apprentices.
  • Create a nurturing, inclusive, and stimulating environment, encouraging independence and social development.
  • Monitor children’s progress and contribute to planning and delivery of activities that support their learning and wellbeing.
  • Support the day-to-day running of the room and nursery, stepping into a lead role when required.
  • Attend planning, training, and curriculum meetings, including occasional sessions outside of working hours.
  • Promote safeguarding, inclusion, and positive behaviour at all times.

Requirements:

  • A Level 3 qualification in Early Childhood Education
  • Proven experience of working within an EYFS setting.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, early years development, and inclusive practice.
  • Additional training such as Paediatric First Aid, Food Hygiene, Allergen Awareness, or SEN knowledge is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and observation skills.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and inclusion.
  • A warm, enthusiastic, and professional attitude with a genuine love for early years education.
  • Willingness to attend training and contribute to the ongoing success of the nursery.
  • A competitive salary dependent on skills, knowledge, and experience.
  • Working Hours: 40 hours across Monday-Friday (Shifts: 07:30-16:30, 08:00-17:00, 08:00-18:00 with half a day off)
  • Staff referral bonus.
  • 25 days annual leave + Bank Holidays and closure over Christmas.
  • 50% discounted nursery fees.
  • Free lunches.
  • Free use of the fitness suite.
  • Free uniform provided.
  • Free onsite parking.
  • Learning and progression opportunities, including 3 dedicated paid staff training days across the year.

As part of The Peterborough School, established in 1895, you join a supportive family, with a long history of success. Joining the wider team, you will enjoy further benefits that being part of a thriving workplace brings. The Nursery recently expanded too, signalling the School’s success and ambition for the future.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
