Job summary

BT Group, based in Birmingham Snowhill, is seeking a Senior Network Lab Engineer to support the HMRC network across monitoring, alerting and automation efforts. You will own and develop lab environments, investigate complex incidents and drive improvements in a critical network environment.

The role requires CCNP and hands-on enterprise networking expertise, with leadership experience and a focus on automation and tooling. Hybrid working model with on-site presence in Birmingham 3 days per week.

Qualifications

• Experience in an enterprise network engineering/support environment with hands-on troubleshooting, packet analysis and RCA.
• CCNP qualified with solid knowledge of enterprise networking and complex environments.
• Experience providing technical leadership, taking ownership of issues and working autonomously and collaboratively to resolve problems.

Responsibilities

• Provide network and lab support across the HMRC network estate, supporting monitoring and automation products and network virtualisation technologies such as EVE‑NG and CML.
• Lead technical investigations allocated by the Tooling Manager, applying effective troubleshooting to support resolution.
• Support the transition of new project implementations into live service, ensuring readiness for operational support.
• Act as a Technical Authority, reviewing proposed network changes to maintain quality and manage risk.
• Drive Continual Service Improvement with HMRC and supplier teams while following BT and HMRC policies.
