Senior National Account Manager

MacGregor Black is partnering with a DIY consumer business on the search for a Senior National Account Manager. This is a permanent role based in Essex.

As Senior National Account Manager, you will be responsible for driving commercial performance within the Sales function. You will be a critical thinker who is dynamic and positive; your ideas and initiatives will contribute to the success of the team and the company. Excellent organisational, analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills are critical to the role. Previous experience with consumer goods products across key national retailers is required.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Reporting directly to the Sales Director, you will manage multiple brands within a chosen group of national DIY retailers.
  2. Managing key retail partners to ensure the business can support the individual demands of each retailer through consistent and rapid growth.
  3. Develop a strong sales strategy closely aligned with our brand partners to meet and exceed growth targets and future ambitions.
  4. Define retail sales targets, annual forecasts, and implement measures to fulfil them; present progress regularly internally and externally.
  5. Identify business gaps and collaborate with internal resources to address needs.
  6. Take ownership of forecast accuracy, liaising with Sales Operations, Demand Planners, and Brand Managers to ensure stock levels support marketing activities.
  7. Understand key customer needs and assess the business's capabilities to support them now and in the future.
  8. Build strong relationships with retail accounts to maximize sales opportunities and evaluate their long-term viability.
  9. Drive account profitability by negotiating terms, reducing returns, and challenging processes.
  10. Prepare weekly reports on progress, sales, and forecasts.
  11. Work with the Brand Management team to define pricing and product ranges for each retail partner.
  12. Identify and open new channels/retailers to generate incremental sales, using expertise and persistence.

What are we looking for?

  • Proven track record in national account sales
  • Ability to generate profitable sales in both short and long term
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with strong organizational and communication skills
  • Knowledge of key national retailers like B&Q, Wickes, Screwfix, and The Range
  • Experience within the DIY and Garden sector in the UK is advantageous; understanding of Premium brands is beneficial
  • Self-motivated professional with a hands-on approach
  • Willingness to travel frequently
