Job summary

Nottingham Building Society is seeking a Head of Mortgage Underwriting at Head Office in Nottingham. This permanent, full-time role operates on a hybrid model with minimum two days in the office and offers a competitive salary plus a car allowance.

You will shape the mortgage origination and underwriting strategy, lead high-performing teams, ensure prudent, compliant lending, and drive continuous improvement across mortgage journeys.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience across mortgage origination, underwriting and portfolio management.
• Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks (MCOB, FCA).
• Proven leadership of high-performing operational teams and coaching.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Shape and deliver the Mortgage Origination and Underwriting strategy to support growth.
• Lead, motivate and develop teams, fostering a customer/intermediary-focused culture.
• Maintain robust underwriting standards, ensuring prudent, compliant lending.
• Drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement across mortgage journeys and processes.
• Use data and performance insights to identify trends, manage risks and improve outcomes.
• Lead change initiatives and embedding new ways of working.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and strong governance controls.
• Build strong relationships with brokers, solicitors, and partners.
• Oversee third-party suppliers and outsourced services to maintain high service levels.
• Champion resilience and business continuity for the mortgage function.
