Job summary

The Nottingham Building Society is seeking a Head of Mortgage Underwriting at its Nottingham head office. The role is permanent and full‑time, with hybrid working (minimum 2 days per week) and a competitive salary plus car allowance.

You will shape the mortgage origination and underwriting strategy, lead and develop teams, maintain robust underwriting standards, and drive improvements across mortgage journeys while ensuring regulatory compliance and strong governance.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience across mortgage origination, underwriting and portfolio management.
• Strong understanding of responsible lending and mortgage operations.
• Knowledge of MCOB, FCA requirements and financial crime controls.
• Proven leadership of high-performing operational teams and coaching colleagues.
• Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret MI and KPIs.
• Experience in operational resilience, risk management and incident recovery.
• Track record of delivering change, transformation and continuous improvement.
• Outstanding stakeholder management and senior‑level influencing skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership under pressure.
