Job summary

NHS Blood and Transplant is recruiting a proactive Senior Healthcare Technical Officer to support scientific staff in day-to-day laboratory operations, including sample preparation, testing, analyser operation and basic equipment maintenance.

You will train junior staff, manage stock, handle blood samples and work a 37.5 hour week in a shift system between 7:00 and 18:00, with manual handling up to 13 kg.

Qualifications

• BTEC or HNC (Level 4) in a science subject, or NHSBT Foundation Degree or equivalent knowledge & experience of blood processing, testing and/or issuing procedures and techniques demanding intermediate level theoretical knowledge acquired through formal training.
• Evidence of furthering personal development

Responsibilities

• Prepare, test and store blood samples with team support.
• Operate analysers and perform basic maintenance on equipment.
• Train and support new/less experienced staff.
• Carry out precise repetitive manipulation of equipment and samples.
• Monitor and order stock, consumables and reagents.
• Handle blood samples and laboratory equipment daily.
• Work hours: 7am–6pm, 37.5 hours/week; may involve shift work.
